Application for Approval of an ECSA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Activity with the IEEE South Africa section

The IEEE South Africa section is a Recognised Voluntary Association of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).Therefore, the IEEE South Africa Section is empowered to approve CPD activities. It is the responsibility of the IEEE South Africa Section to ensure that quality activities are approved for CPD points and for this reason any person or entity wishing to apply for approval of a CPD activity must follow the procedure detailed here.

Before the event:

Step Description Responsibility
1 Complete the ECPD2, ECPD3, and ECPD7 forms that can also be found on the ECSA website. Ensure that Section 5 on the form ECPD2 clearly indicates how this activity is aligned with the mandate of the IEEE South Africa Section.

2 In case of a workshop or training activity where a facilitator is guiding the activity, submit the CV of the facilitator(s) together with the submission form. It is an IEEE South Africa Section requirement that the facilitator be a professional with a 4 year degree.

3 In the case of a conference or similar event supply a separate motivation of why this event should be approved by the IEEE. Complete this form.

4 Evaluation forms for obtaining feedback from participants for rating of the relevance, quality and effectiveness of the activity, must be attached to the application.

5 Transfer an amount of R 2 000 per activity for which approval is being applied for to the IEEE account and attach the proof of payment to the application form.

6 Submit all documentation to the IEEE South Africa Section.

7 The activity will then be approved or rejected by the IEEE South Africa Section professional activities officer and the most relevant Chapter Chair relating to the particular activity. Activities will be approved or rejected within 14 days of receipt of application. The IEEE South Africa Section reserves the right to request further information if required.
