Women in Engineering

Women in Engineering (WIE) IEEE South Africa Section is an affinity group of the IEEE. The mission of IEEE WIE is to facilitate the global recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines. IEEE WIE envisions a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.

In line with the IEEE Women in Engineering mission, the IEEE WIE in South Africa has the STAR program in schools from a previously disadvantaged background in Gauteng. The Student Teacher and Research Scientist/Engineer (STAR) program is a project that aims to encourage learners, especially females, to consider pursuing engineering and science professions. The STAR program provides mentorship, tutoring, practical experience, presentations and tours of companies and universities.

Join us and be part of dynamic team making a difference in South African engeering. Being a IEEE volunteer can be a gratifying and memorable experience. Whether your "other" skills are suited for organizing events, financial reporting, or even motivational speaking, career talks, and technical presentations, the WIE, IEEE South Africa Section needs your expertise as an IEEE WIE volunteer. IEEE WIE volunteer positions are open to male IEEE members as well.
