Abstract of the talk: Industrial revolutions have transformed our societies and the workplace over the years. Hence the world around us changed fundamentally and will continually change. Digital Transformation has triggered essential alterations in how we live, work, socialise and study. There is a growing concern for industry, academics, scholars, leaders and unions, globally on the future of work. Transitions of technology saw the conception of robotics, artificial intelligence, drones, the internet of things, and virtual reality, amongst others are taking over the workforce at a rapid pace. These changes raise important questions about our jobs’ safety and the skills we need for future employment, and will digital transformation be worse than apartheid. This presents organisations with an opportunity to overcome the nature of treating humans and machines on similar paths and build networks that can pave a secure and innovative way of moving forward. The address addresses the current technological trends hitting the workplace and the impact of these emerging technologies on society. Some organisations are already feeling the impact of digitalisation worldwide, and some countries experience an adverse effect more than others.
