Reflections on how machines learn to unearth patterns in data and how this capability is then used to try to understand language. In this talk I go through the journey of African Natural Language Processing and the strides that have been made in the last few years. For the audience this should be a good overview of some of the opportunities and challenges in Low Resource Natural Language Processing.
