Elon Musk Honorary IEEE Member
The IEEE South Africa is proud to announce that Mr Elon R Musk has been selected to receive 2015 IEEE Honorary Membership. The citation acknowledges his leadership in and innovative contributions to space-exploration technology, combating global warming and promoting science education, paediatric health, and clean energy.
Professor Duncan Baker, who proposed the nomination, said that ESKOM's Dr Ian Campbell McRae was similarly honoured in 2007.
Elon Musk was at Pretoria Boys High before moving to Canada in 1988. He then went on to create Pay Pal, SpaceX and the Tesla motor vehicle. He is also involved in supporting numerous South African social endeavours.
The South African section of the IEEE has around 1300 members and is active in Power Engineering, Software and many other areas.
