Progressing to deeper levels in industrial activities of underground mining prompts a wide range of studies on many aspects, especially on the communication aspect of deep mining, a very technical and challenging environment. To improve safety, health, productivity and energy consumption, a reliable communication system is the key to success. In such a harsh environment, relying on a single approach, such as wireless or wired communication is not sufficient. At this workshop, the new proposed research of power-line and visible light communication techniques in conjunction with wireless techniques will address the new challenges in deep mines from the communication perspective.
